Singapore is open and direct flights from all over the world are returning to this popular Asian hub, so it’s about time to be considering return visits to the iconic city-state. Just one day is too short for anywhere, even for The Little Red Dot. However, despite Changi Airport being rated one of the best airports in the world, this guide will take you beyond the terminals. You’ve landed in Singapore and you’re off of the plane, and pretty much minutes from anywhere in the country. If you’ve never been to Singapore before, you’re about to learn that it’s an enchanting city that pulls the best of Malay, Chinese, and other Southeast Asian cultures into a uniquely curated paradise. So, let’s get in and get started.

Changi Airport

I know, I know, we want to get out of the airport, and we will. But first, stop at The Jewel. The Jewel is Changi’s newest addition to an airport that already has a cinema, butterfly garden, and swimming pool. At The Jewel you’ll find the world’s largest indoor waterfall. There’s also a food court if you want to get a quick bite. However, be warned, don’t get a large meal, we have more to treat your tastebuds to later.

Taxi, Grab, or MRT

Now that you’re ready to head out and explore the city there are a few options. You can queue up for a taxi (avoid the fancy Mercedes cars if you want to pay a reasonable rate), or book a Grab. You won’t find Uber in Grab in Singapore, actually Grab absorbed much pf Uber’s business in Southeast Asia, so it won’t be too different from what you might be used to at home.

Alternatively, and one of the best ways to get around Singapore is the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) subway system, Once in a neighborhood the best way of getting around is walking, but the MRT also operates bus routes for getting around almost anywhere on the island.

Must Do In SIngapore #1 Go to Orchard Road

Orchard Road is Asia’s most famous shopping street and a visit to Singapore isn’t complete without a stroll down this boulevard. But before we start our retail therapy or sightseeing, we should get a coffee and a meal.

If taking the MRT there are a couple of stops that will take you to Orchard Road. To reach our recommended coffee shops, take the MRT to Somerset.

Oriole Coffee + Bar

Oriole Coffee + Bar is located on the ground floor and is part of the Pan Pacific Suites on Orchard. It’s a great location for drinking coffee and people watching. The menu has a lot to offer at any time of day, so even if you’ve arrived later in the day, drop in for a meal and a pint if it tickles your fancy.

Alchemist Design orchard

Alchemist Design Orchard opens earlier and might be a better option if you’ve arrived in the early morning. This is a place that’s a great option for getting your coffee fix. The shop serves two blends that you can enjoy while enjoying a relaxing, well designed, and very green environment.

Shopping On Orchard Road

Why not do some retail therapy on this famous Asian shopping street? Orchard Road is a 2.2 kilometer boulevard that is the retail hub of Singapore. Here you’ll find designer boutiques, upscale markets, chic galleries, and a slew of entertainment options.

This will make you laugh, but we’re serious. Try an ice cream sandwich from one of the vendors scattered along the road. The combination of the Orchard Road environment and a simple ice cream sandwich creates a uniquely fun experience.

Eat Local – Indulge At Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre

Hawker centres are spread all throughout the city and are a must see and do when spending 24 hours in Singapore. Hawker centres are where you’ll find open air and down to earth food stalls serving up a wide variety of local flavors. If you’re in Singapore you must eat some chili crab and order some hokkien prawn nee for good measure. Also try some braised pork ribs and Singapore’s national dish, chicken rice.

Hawker centre food is cheap but there is no skimping on quality. Save the fine dining and get some plate licking delicious food for $2 or $3 a dish.

The Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre is one of the most iconic spots, so head on over to Telok Ayer and eat some local dishes there.

Must Do In Singapore #2: Explore the Arab Street Area

Singapore’s Arab Street Area is filled with street art murals, indie boutiques, and hip restaurants and bars. This area is actually one of Singapore’s liveliest neighborhoods. Take a stroll round the historic Muslim quarter and stop by Bar Stories for a refreshing mixed drink. For some good Mexican food (yes, Mexican), eat at Piedra Negra while exploring the back streets.

Walk ups nd down HajI Lane to find some slightly different souvenirs. This iconic Singapore street has some very cool vintage shops.

Gardens By The Bay was created to help people escape the city. A visitor could spend all day in the Avatar-like environment of Gardens By The Bay. From afar the area will undoubtedly grab your attention and you’ll find the area just as exciting up close.

1. The Flower DOme

The Flower Dome is open daily from 09:00AM to 09:00PM and is listed as the largest greenhouse in the world. It’s a spectacular sight and an incredible achievement of architecture. The plants and flowers are always changing, so even if you’ve been here before there’s reason to visit again.

2. OCBC Skyway

Don’t let a fear of heights stop you from tackling the OCBC Skyway at Gardens By The Bay.
