Some aircraft in the American Airlines fleet will be getting a major facelift. The airline has announced that its Airbus 321XLR and Boeing 787-9 aircraft, set to debut in 2024, will feature new Flagship Suite premium seating and upgraded premium economy seats.
“We are enhancing the customer experience across their entire journey with American,” said Julie Rath, the airline’s vice president of customer experience said in a statement
Continuing Rath states, “The arrival of new long-haul aircraft and the customized seat design of the Flagship Suite seats will offer customers a truly private premium experience on our long-haul fleet.”
The intent of the new Flagship Suites is for increased luxury and comfort for long haul flights. The seating will feature a privacy door, chaise liunge seating, and more storage space for personal items.
On the Boeing 787-9, the 51 new seats will face the aircraft windows, giving every passenger a view. Also, the seats will be configured in a 1-2-1 arrangement so each passenger has aisle access.
The Airbus A321XLR is a single aisle aircraft. so its 20 suites will be in a 1-1 arrangement facing the aisle.
The new suites will also be on American’s Boeing 777-300ER, creating more premium seating, and the Airbus A321T, replacing the existing Flagship First seating.
In 2016 American Airlines was the first airline to debut international premium economy seats, and now those seats will be receiving an upgrade. The new seats will offer more privacy for passengers, and will also have double the storage space. Additionally, the 787-9 and A320XLR will include 32 and 12 premium economy seats, respectively.
This year the airline is trying to fully upgrade its premium member’s experience, beginning with its Admirals Club renovations and now its aircraft seating.
