Orient Express Unveils The Silenseas, Inspired By Vintage Vessels

The Orient Express has enchanted guests for over a century, as the iconic passenger train continues to serve as a testament to traditional and unapologetically refined luxury. While the hospitality company’s famed train has set the standard, Orient Express is now venturing toward the sea, with the unveiling of the world’s largest sailing ship.

The new vessel, Silenseas, is a luxury maritime ship modeled after vintage vessels. Orient Express partnered with Chantiers de l’Atlantique to develop the chassis. The vessel’s body is inspired by the Golden Age of the French Riviera, as seen in its grand sweeping masts and sails that have since been absent in newer, more technologically advanced cruise ships.

But, that doesn’t mean that Silenseas is not technically-enhanced; it is. It’s just also able to capture the old-time, whimsical ways of ship design from the past.

The Silenseas is 721 feet long with 54 suites. It also has two swimming pools, two restaurants, a speakeasy, an Amphitheatre-Cabaret, a recording studio, a spa, and much more. The luxury hospitality company promises to deliver the same opulence to seafaring travelers as its train passengers.

The vessel carries over 16,000 square feet of a ‘SolidSail’ mast system that will aid it in sailing to and from its destinations. A secondary hybrid propulsion system that runs on liquified gas can give the ship an extra boost if needed.

The Orient Express expects Silenseas to hit the open waters in 2026.
