If you’re planning a trip to Bangkok, you might be surprised to learn that you can stay at one of the tallest hotels in the world, and at a surprisingly reasonable rate.
The Bangkok Sky Hotel is in the Baiyoke Tower II, which is located in the Pratunam section of Bangkok. The Baiyoke Tower II was the tallest building in Thailand until it was dethroned by the MahaNakhon Building in 2016. The hotel begins at the 18th floor and the highest rooms are located on the 74th floor. You’ll find restaurants even higher up the hotel’s 88 stories.
There’s plenty of space in this building for rooms, a variety of amenities, and restaurants in this 4 star rated hotel.
Baiyoke Sky Hotel Rooms
Rooms at the Baiyoke Sky Hotel are not only divided by the room type but also by zone. There are 10 types of rooms spread across 3 zones. The zones are the: Standard Zone, Sky Zone, and Space Zone.
- The Standard Zone is floors 22 to 45.
- The Sky Zone is floors 46 to 63.
- The Space Zone spans the 64th to 74th floor.
As for the actual rooms, they do look a bit dated, but it is a 25 year old hotel with affordable room rates. All rooms come with modern amenities and the basics you might expect. You’ll have your robe and slippers, hair dryer, toiletries, in room WiFi, TV and mini bar along with coffee and tea.
Oh, and the water bottles are little Baiyoke Tower II’s. It’s kind of a cute touch.
Now, let’s take a look at the wide variety of room types.
- The Superior Room is the smallest room type at 36 square meters and found on floors 22-45
- Junior Suites are a step up from the Superior Room and are located on floors 36-74,
- The 1 Bed Superior Suite is a Standard Zone only room, so it’s only on floors 22-35.
- The Deluxe Lady Rooms are on floors 46-63
- The larger Junior Suite Lady is also found on floors 46-63
- The Superior Suite room type is found on the 56th floor and the 71st to 74th floors.
- The Panorama Suite with its large panoramic window views is on floors 54 and 55.
- The 1 Bed or 2 Bed Presidential Suites are on floors 70-74.
The Deluxe Room is what we stayed in for our night at the Baiyoke Sky Hotel. We were in the Space Zone on the 65th floor, but these rooms are located anywhere from floors 46 to 74 in the building.
Food & Drink
There certainly isn’t a shortage of dining options at the Baiyoke Sky Hotel. Counting restaurants, cafes, and bars gives you a total of 8 options.
For restaurants there is the Crystal Grill for grilled meat and seafood, Stella Palace for a Chinese buffet, the international buffet at the Bangkok Sky Restaurant, the Baiyoke Floating Market for Thai Seafood, and the Fruit Buffet. There’s also the scenic Bangkok Balcony for al fresco dining above the city.
For bars there’s the Tee Off Sport Bar where you can have a pizza and beer along with some mini golf and The Roof Top Bar for drinks paired with panoramic views of the city from the 83rd floor.
During our stay we had dinner at the Bangkok Sky Restaurant, breakfast on the Bangkok Balcony, and enjoyed a drink at the Tee Off Sport Bar as well as a couple at The Roof Top Bar.
Our meals were delicious, and our drinks were pretty good too.
Klook.comBaiyoke SKy Hotel Amenities
The Baiyoke Sky Hotel, of course has a swimming pool, but there are also other amenities guests can enjoy during their stay.
Most of the hotel’s amenities are found on the 20th floor. Here you’ll find the Panorama Lounge, the Sky Beauty & Salon, the Fitness Center, Spa, and swimming pool. Unlike some more recently built buildings, the swimming pool is walled so you’re not able to swim and enjoy a breathtaking view. However, the pool area was clean and well maintained. The Fitness Center was likewise clean, orderly, and appeared to have well maintained equipment, ranging from the free weights to the treadmills and everything in between.
On the 18th floor you’ll find the Baiyoke Mini Golf Range and Tee Off Sport Bar. We found it to be a nice place to sit back with a beer. If you want to play a round, it’s 100 baht for adults and 50 baht for children.
Of course you must visit the 77th and 84th floors for the views of the city. On the 77th floor you can use coin operated telescopes to find your favorite landmarks. And for those less familiar with Bangkok, there are helpful signs to guide your gaze.
However, the 84th floor Observation Deck is the real treat. Here you can stand and see the sprawling city beneath you as the Observation Deck rotates to give you views in all directions. Sunset and night are the most popular times for seeing the city from here. However, daytime views can also be equally amazing.
Summary
For its location at the center of the city, with easy access to major roads and skytrain system paired with the experience and available amenities, the Baiyoke Sky Hotel is definitely worth the nightly rate.
The rooms may be a bit dated, but that fairly minor point does little to detract from the experience. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful, the food and drinks were good, and there’s plenty to do just within the hotel itself before venturing out to explore the city.
Also, as a bonus for visiting ghost hunters, some say the hotel is haunted. We didn’t experience anything odd, nor have we found any convincing evidence in our research. But maybe consider staying a few nights.
We find the Baiyoke Sky Hotel to be a great value for visitors who are seeking affordable luxury during their stay in Bangkok. You get good service, good food, and memorable views of the city.
