Review: Phu Ing Tharn | Dome Tent or Hobbit House?

Most people don’t travel to Thailand for a glamping experience, and likely even fewer international visitors have Ratchaburi on their list of Thai destinations. However, if you are one of the few visitors interested in visiting Ratchaburi and want to give glamping in Thailand a try, you might want to consider Phu Ing Tharn.

Ratchaburi is about 2 hours west of Bangkok and local tourists often visit from Bangkok to get out of the city and experience the natural environment of Ratchaburi, specifically the hills and forests.

Phu Ing Tharn is a small but charming glamping resort in Suan Pueng District of Ratchaburi. If you’re unfamiliar with the area, the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is not far from here. The resort isn’t massive but offers enough space for a sense of privacy. There is also a decent selection of accommodation types.

Phu InG Tharn ACCOMMODATION TYPES

During our stay we were in a dome tent. The price is about 800 baht per night and accommodates 2 people. On weekends and holidays the price increases to 1,200 baht per night. In addition to the dome tent, other options include a tent house, family house, or even what can only be described as a Hobbit House.

Obviously, staying in a tent we didn’t have closet space or much furniture, but there was a small table and a couple places to hang clothing. The bed was certainly comfortable. We also had an air conditioner and a TV. But the TV channel selection was limited to Thai only stations.

The bathroom wasn’t too bad. It’s outside, so you do need to leave the tent if nature calls in the middle of the night, and the hot water was reliable, which was a great relief for showers.

Also, each accommodation has its own outside grill and table. The outside grill and table is generally where guests eat their meals. There is a dining area at the lobby, but virtually everyone eats outside of their accommodation.

Food At Phu Ing Tharn

For dinner we took advantage of this and ate a lot of mu kratha, which is pork grilled on a copper plate. This resort is actually well known amongst Thai travelers for the mu kratha.

A mu kratha served on a copper plate barbecue is 350 THB. Which is a great deal for the amount of food served in each order. We struggled to finish it all!

For breakfast, an 80 Baht American Breakfast can be ordered in advance and delivered to your outdoor table in the morning when you’re ready to eat.

As for other drinks and snacks during your stay, we recommend bringing your own, although nearby there’s a small convenience store.

Most people who visit Phu Ing Tharn come for a relaxing weekend or go out for some other sightseeing during the day. Just next door to Phu Ing Tharn is Nam Tok Kao Chan, a waterfall that has 9 separate levels. There’s also a hot spring about 800 meters away. But one of the most popular area attractions is the Hua Nam Sai Mon Village.

A Charming Glamping Escape

That’s about all for our review of Phu Ing Tharn. A visit here is a charming camping escape without forgoing all the comforts of home. Come here for the delicious mu kratha and stay for the fun accommodation and serene surroundings. Phu Ing Tharn is definitely a place we wouldn’t mind staying at during another visit to Ratchaburi.
