Bangkok finally has a train like the Airport Link or BTS Skytrain running between Don Mueang Airport and central Bangkok. Prior to August 2021 you could really only reach the airport by car or bus to be on time for your flight.

Yes, there is a State Railway of Thailand train station, but use for travelers isn’t recommended due to unexpected delays. It’s simply not the most convenient or comfortable method between the city and airport. But now with the SRT Red Line, the train is an option again, perhaps even the best option for many travelers.

The new SRT Red Line links Don Mueang Airport to central Bangkok. Currently, Don Mueang Airport primarily serves airlines operating domestic flights and some international routes offered by budget carriers.

Until the opening of Suvarnabhumi in 2006, Don Mueang was Bangkok’s only airport and the airport code for Don Mueang is DMK. Some airlines operate flights out of both airports, so be careful and make sure you know which airport you need to go to before it’s too late. There have been many occasions where travelers have gone to the wrong airport.

The new Don Mueang SRT Red Line station is accessible by skywalk directly from the airport terminal. This same station will also serve the planned high-speed train that will take you up country.

As of now the SRT Red Line runs between Rangsit and Bang Sue stations with connections to the MRT Pink Line and MRT Blue Line. The MRT Blue Line connection at Bang Sue will take you into central Bangkok. From Bang Sue you can reach the popular Sukhumvit and Silom areas, as well as the rest of Bangkok via the MRT and BTS Skytrain.
